Formulation Basis

In Chinese Medicine theory, the kidney is the source of the body’s yin and yang energies. The kidney’s main physiological functions are: governs the storage of essence, governs water metabolism, governs qi absorption, governs the bones and generates marrow, connects the brain and governs human reproduction. These physiological functions are synonymous with the neuroendocrine system, immune system, free radical theory of aging, etc. in modern medicine. Clinical symptoms displayed can include fatigue, forgetfulness, malaise, edema, wasting-thirst syndrome, aching lumbus and weak legs, increased risk of bone fractures in the elderly, amenorrhea, infertility, impotency, irregular urination, etc.[1-2]

For deficiencies in kidney yin and yang, it said that “those proficient in supplementing yang must seek yang in yin so that yang is supported by yin for infinite engendering transformation of life energy; those proficient in supplementing yin must seek yin in yang so that yin is lifted up by yang for continuing the spring of life”. With the kidney yang warmed to help in qi and fluid transformation and the kidney yin nourished to help in engendering fluid and allaying thirst, the healthy equilibrium of yin and yang can be achieved for the continuous generation and transformation.[3-5]

H&F V-Strength Capsule is based on the classical formula Kidney Qi Pill as recorded in “Treatise on Exogenous Febrile Diseases”. The formula is targeted at kidney yin and yang deficiencies. The herbal combination has effects of warming the kidney yang and nourishing the kidney yin in order to fortify both kidney yin and yang.

Medicinal Actions

Warm kidney yang, nourish kidney yin

Radix Rehmanniae/Rhizoma Dioscoreae/Fructus Corni/ Fructus Mori	Nourish yin, supplement kidney, fortify spleen, supplement liver and boost essence-blood[4]
Semen Trigonellae/Aspongopus/ Herba Cistanches/Radix Morindae Officinalis	Supplement kidney yang, warm kidney and resolve water[5]
Ramulus Cinnamomi/Cortex Cinnomomi	Warm yang in assisting kidney qi transformation and water movement[4-5]
Rhizoma Alismatis/Poria	Induce diuresis to drain dampness, fortify spleen
Cortex Moutan/Radix Trichosanthis	Clear heat, engender fluid and allay thirst[6]

Clinical Indications

Edema, ringing in the ears, aching pain in the lumbus, heel pain, aching lumbus and weak legs, wasting-thirst syndrome, urinary irregularities, etc. due to kidney yin and yang deficiencies.

Dosage and Precaution

For oral administration, 2 capsules 2 times daily, or as per physician’s orders based on the assessment of the patient’s condition. Administration of this medicinal product should be stopped upon discovery of any adverse drug reactions or changes in physical appearance of the capsules.
