Formulation Basis

Sudden and recurrent bouts of runny nose, sneezing, itchy nose and nasal congestion: these are typical clinical presentations of allergic rhinitis, with other accompanying symptoms such as itchy throat, phlegm, dry throat and breathing difficulties. A deficiency in lung qi causes the exterior defence qi to weaken, hence allowing exogeneous wind-cold or wind-heat to invade the lung, affecting the normal dispersion of lung qi and blocking the nasal orifices. This is classified as deficiency in the root and excess in the tip, therefore the treatment protocol is focused on the simultaneous treatment of the root and tip to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis: dispel wind, diffuse the lung, free orifices and soothe the throat to treat the tip; strengthen and protect body resistance.[1-4]
H&F Nasal Relief Capsule is mainly targeted at stuffy and runny nose and sneezing. Flos Magnoliae, Fructus Xanthii and Herba Asari free nasal orifices[5-6]; Radix Ledebouriellae, Herba Schizonepetae, Radix Angelicae Dahuricae and Lumbricus (Earthworm) dispel wind; Periostracum Cicadae (Cicada Nymph), Fructus Forsythiae, Cortex Mori Radicis, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae and Herba Menthae dispel wind and clear heat[2]; Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii resolves phlegm and frees orifices[7]; Radix Codonopsis Pilosulae, Radix Astragali seu Hedysari, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Radix Rehmmaniae Praeparata, Ramulus Taxilli and Fructus Schisandrae strengthen body resistance and eliminate pathogenic factors[3]. The herbal combination has effects of strengthening body resistance, resolving the exterior and freeing nasal orifices.

Clinical Indications

Sneezing, blocked nose and runny nose which can be aggravated by the cold or wind due to lung and spleen qi deficiency coupled with exogenous wind-cold and wind-heat

Dosage and Precaution

2-4 capsules 2 times daily, or in accordance to physician’s orders. Administration of this medicinal product should be stopped upon discovery of any adverse drug reactions or changes in physical appearance of the capsules.
