Description
Formulation Basis
As recorded in the Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber Chapter 22, “female diseases are due to deficiencies, cold accumulation and qi stagnation, causing menstrual irregularities and even amenorrhea. Over time, the cold blood congregates within the uterus and the cold damages the meridians.” Aggravating factors such as a cold-leaning body constitution, a direct strike of the exogenous cold, overconsumption of raw and cold foods, overexhausation, etc. can cause the accumulation of cold-yin and deficiency of yang-qi. This leads to the qi and blood stagnation in the uterus and its connecting meridians and collaterals, causing an impaired uterine function and resulting in various gynaecological diseases, including dysmenorrhea, delayed menstruation, scant menstruation, amenorrhea and infertility.[1-2]
