Formulation Basis

H&F Anti-Distention Capsule is formulated for the treatment of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID). FGID do not display pathological abnormalities and can only be diagnosed by the presence of gastritis under the oesophagogastroduodenoscopy. However the symptoms of FGID are very significant and can adversely affect normal daily activities, such as pain and distension in the abdomen which are aggravated after the ingestion of food. By combining many years of teachings with Prof. Zhou Xuewen and the incidence and prevalence of FGID in Singapore, it is found that the root cause for FGID (pathological presence of gastritis and display of abnormal gastrointestinal motility) is the vacuity and weakness of the spleen and stomach. With the supplementation and enrichment of the spleen and stomach to improve the gastrointestinal motility, the rectification and downbearing of qi to improve gastric emptying, and the clearing of heat and resolution of toxins to reduce inflammation and kill bacteria, the Anti-Distention Capsule achieves the goal of simultaneously treating the root and the tip and removing the etiologies.^[1-2]

Clinical Indications

Symptoms due to the weakness and vacuity of the spleen and stomach with the encumbering of dampness and stagnation of qi: pain, distension and fullness of the abdomen, poor appetite, prone to satiety, halitosis, occasional regurgitation of stomach acid, nausea and vomiting, continuous bowel sounds, poor sleep quality, etc. These symptoms can be found in diseases such as chronic gastritis, less severe gastroesophageal reflux disease, etc.

Dosage and Administration

For oral administration, 2 capsules 2 times daily

Administration of this medicinal product should be stopped upon discovery of any adverse drug reactions or changes in physical appearance of the capsules.
